Angelite: A Healing Blue Stone with Unique Qualities

Angelite, a beautiful blue stone, is mostly used for its remarkable healing qualities. Angelite is a trade name for the mineral anhydrite. Anhydrite is not a common mineral, but it is found in large quantities in certain places and is considered a rock-forming mineral. Anhydrite’s nearest relatives are gypsum and selenite, which most people have heard of; these minerals are indeed close relatives and are very similar—except for one important thing: Anhydrite does not have any water in it, while those other minerals do. Another word-derivation note: “anhydrite” comes from a Greek word meaning “without water.”

Proper Storage and Care for Angelite

Angelite should be stored in a cool, dry location. If it gets wet, it will inevitably start to turn into gypsum. Angelite is not a tough stone by any means and is very easily scratched. Nonetheless, crystals are often associated with Angelite’s healing properties, because when one thinks of a crystal used for healing, one thinks of a powerful tool. And Angelite, with its pretty pastel blue color and rumored to-take-you-to-another-dimension 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, well, it’s a pretty potent HEPA-filtered (to keep the low-vibrating energies out) beautiful pastel blue crystal.

Angelite in Ancient Egypt: A Historical Discovery

Anhydrite, in its blue form, has been discovered in the tombs of ancient Egypt. However, it is not at all clear whether this mineral was gathered by miners in that same region or if it was just another exotic item brought into Egypt by ancient traders who traveled the well-trodden trade routes of the time.
